Daily Writing Journal: Tuesday, March 31st

It’s less that I want to be a novelist and more that I want to become an expert of my craft.

I want to be Jack White on the guitar, Tarantino penning the script, Shaun White dropping into the halfpipe. Hell, I don’t even want to be “the best of the best” like those guys; I just want to be able to hold my head high in my own discipline.

It’s easy to admire people who are truly good at what they do. It is meaningful and magical for a professional to go about her work. She is a vessel; the work flows through her. She is in her right place, doing the task that only she can do.

When we do the work that only WE are capable of doing – that’s when we recognize the face that we had before we were born.
